Cool beans. Plan a cambelt change while you're doing the belts. Exhaust valves are £118 each if it snaps....

Looks like your sump is leaking from the side, out of the bolt holes. Its running down the side of the sump you can see it, but its not running out of the lip it seals to the CC strengthener. Its gotta be the bolt holes (unless i'm missing something in the blurry pic lol)
I'm pretty sure anyway, that oil cant defy gravity so it must be coming from above and running down.

Otherwise, good stuff. Keep it coming!

Good good. Going well mate!

Just a point though, the temp sensor for the fans should be in the return from the rad, not the feed as you have it. Think about where the Renault sensor is positioned....When the coolant returning to the engine from the rad gets over a certain temp, the fans come on. Its no crisis, but it'll cut your fans in a bit early under normal driving, and probably when you give it a bit of a caning when the coolant feeding to the rad is really hot.

DaveL485

If you put it in the bottom hose then surely the water has cooled down by this point thus defeating the point .... if the water coming out of the rad and going back to the engine is hot enough to put the fans on then surely the coolant at the top of the rad must be hotter ... you do have a point about where the Reanult sensor is though ....

Cheers Dave

Exactly. The fans come on when the water IN the rad is hot. By having the stat at the top, it'll come on when the water entering the rad is hot, which is all the time. You need the fans to work when the coolant after the rad is too hot, otherwise you're fans will come on way too early.

Even if i'm not explaining it very well, I forward the point of every single rad fan switch you see on an OE car is positioned at the point the water exits the rad. I'm not arguing with hundreds of billions of pounds of development and testing....:icon_biggrin:

Thanks that price isn't too bad, about the same as what GSF used to sell them for, although I believe they cant get stock of the yellow fogs now only the clear/white.

By the way the new exhaust looks lovely I remember when I brought one a couple of years ago, I wish I could get a stainless copy made up with a larger bore.....

DaveL485
11-12-2008, 06:50 PM
Roddy- Hate to point this out after the fact but if you bolt the black plastic bumper retainers to the car first, then fit the bumper over them and put the 13mm in from the bottom on each side, it really, really easy.
:icon_biggrin:

Larsson7
11-12-2008, 08:29 PM
I had that exact same problem when I fitted new fogs to a Clio I used to own.

Took me an hour to figure out they didn't come with bulbs, felt like a right idiot hehe!

What's left to do to the car now mate?

Taking my car to that Shotts place on Saturday so they can have a look at the exhaust and turbo, see what they can do.

I'm off work for two weeks as of the 19th matey, so if you have any free time around then to fit those seals, let me know!

Mine definetly were not bolted in place to start off with Dave, so that might explain it, or else i would have put bolts back in them .... Although the ones i have have clips that push into the bodywork to hold them in place, they just dont hold them tightly enough ...

2 man job when the little plastic clips are broken...fuffing things!!

swearing, swearing, swearing - but hey its a renault!

Took the car to Free Flow in Shotts yesterday Roddy.

Taking it back next week to have the exhaust altered for some loudness and also to stop it hitting the chassis/bumper.
New custom 2.5" downpipe manufactured and fitted and the turbo fitted and setup.

So hopefully by the weekend will have a rattle free car with a shiny new turbo whistling away.

Now just that annoying clunk to sort out, he's going to have a look at that as well.

That sound deadening does that by design I think lol. Check behind the pillar covers for signs of water mate it comes down the A or B pillars, usually A. If not it could be the windscreen seal, though unlikely as its bonded, it can even get in through the doors too, especially if the plastic cover bits are missing.

Give me a shout if you get stuck Dale.

Roddy, the metal is quite thin for decent welding. It's not a disaster on that welding to be fair. I'd say seam welding/grinding it all to a flat finish would have cost a fair bit more, it's very labour intensive.
